As I was saying in my previous post, in addition to sewing the crew neck version (version A) of the Zéphyr dress, one of the new Deer&Doe patterns, I also made version B. It’s my favorite variation of the pattern, with this slightly curved V neckline that I find gorgeous 🙂

I had not really planned out this dress… I was browsing the Harts Fabric website looking for fabric for another project when I found this: leopard print gold metallic ponte knit. Yep, you read that right.

I don’t know what got into me, I just had to have it. I never ever wear anything gold, and even less animal print, but I don’t know, I thought it would look cool paired with navy, and I didn’t have any fabric suited for Zéphyr and I really wanted to make another one. But while my first version, all in white with the crew neck, is very “Sporty Spice”, there, with the cleavage, the short length and the glitter leopard print, I feel like a mix between Geri and Mel B… and I don’t know if I can own up to that (or to my Spice Girls references).

So I’m not sure what to think of this dress. I love the pattern but I’m torn on the final result. I’m thinking I should have lengthened the skirt: Zéphyr is very short, which is nice, but paired with a tacky fabric it might be a bit too much. I’m digging the back though, with the very flattering scooped-out armholes 🙂

If you like the fabric though, I highly recommend it for this pattern as it has just the ideal thickness, stretch, recovery and drape. I for once am going to stick to more understated fabrics… The Mélilot shirt I’ll post tomorrow is just plain white, so hopefully I’ll be avoiding the fashion police with that one 😉
