It’s almost T minus 1 month to the release of the next Deer&Doe collection and I still haven’t published all my test versions from the previous collection! I’d better get to it now…

In addition to my gingham Hoya blouse with 3/4 sleeves, I also made a toile of the short-sleeved version… also in gingham! While the first one was in rayon, this one is made in a cotton with a good amount of body (stiffer than what is recommended for this pattern, like cotton voile for instance), which gives the blouse a very different look.

In this fabric, the blouse is very, very boxy. I usually like to mark my waistline so this is far from my usual silhouette, still I kind of like it worn with shorts. That said I still wouldn’t suggest using such a stiff fabric for the Hoya blouse: the front panels are lined, so at the point where they overlap there is already 4 layers, plus the facing, plus the seam allowances… That’s pretty thick.

I wear it here with a pair of Châtaigne shorts I made last year from a chambray from les Trouvailles d’Amandine. I never posted it on the blog because I don’t have much to say about it, but it’s a great basic piece 🙂

I really love gingham, and I think Hoya is great in this pattern. Sara’s red gingham version is awesome: she cut the front panels in the bias which also gives a nice drape to her fabric. On mine the gingham pattern is much smaller, and I really like the diagonal effect it gives on the lapel (even when I make a muslin I can’t stop myself from carefully matching patterns, help!).

I also love the neckline on this pattern, it has just the right depth. The panels are sewn together on just a portion of the front, which leaves some movement to the fabric at the neckline.

Alright, one last picture from the side to showcase the boxiness… And maybe someday I’ll show you my test version of the Luzerne trench coat, which has been waiting for its sleeves to be hemmed for months now!
