A few days ago was the end of the latest edition of Me-Made May, this annual challenge to wear at least one handmade garment every day of the month. After having a blast for my first participation last year, I enrolled again for 2016. Here is the recap, with pie charts and an animated gif of course!
I haven’t been writing here as regularly as I had hoped to do, and yet I have many projects I would like to show you. Unfortunately, ever since I came back from my trip it has barely stopped raining: no way to get enough daylight to take proper pictures. Last Sunday I thought it was getting better, but as I was walking out the door, camera in hand, the rain started pouring again. Whatever, my blow-dry was ruined already so I went anyway…
Back in March I traveled to New Orleans to attend a great wedding (I’ll show you the dress I wore soon) and I took the opportunity to visit one of my favorites stores in the whole world: Trashy Diva. They carry their own retro clothing line, with 40s and 50s influences, exactly what I like to wear. Actually when we entered the shop my husband said to me “Oh I see… Everything here looks like stuff you’ve made..!”. I guess my taste in clothing is consistent!
Over the last few weeks, projects made from the new Deer&Doe patterns have started popping up all over the place, and that makes me really happy. On my front I have finally been able to finish and photograph my version of the Lupin jacket, and I’m taking this opportunity to answer a question that has been asked a lot: can you wear it closed?
The second pattern of the Deer&Doe spring-summer 2016 collection that I wanted to show you is the Mélilot shirt. Even though they are the same type of garment, Mélilot is very different from Deer&Doe’s previous shirt pattern, Bruyère (which I had made here, and also for the Deer&Doe blog here). It is both more casual – Bruyère has a structured waistband while Mélilot is loose and flowy – and more technical: a collar with collar stand, sleeve plackets, french seams everywhere, every detail is perfect.
