If you read sewing blogs, I’m pretty sure you know Roisin from Dolly Clackett, a lady of wonderful style, who loves funky shoes and fit and flare dresses in crazy patterned fabrics. She’s made everything already: polka dots, gingham and florals of course, but also mushrooms, boats, Eiffel towers, world maps, comics, cowgirls, and that’s only a small selection! She’s really inspiring, and with her huge smile and funny blog posts, reading her always put me in a good mood, so she’s truly one of my favorite bloggers out there.

So when Sarah from Rhinestones and Telephones launched a dress contest à la Dolly Clackett to celebrate Roisin’s upcoming wedding, I just had to jump in!

I had the perfect fabric for this occasion just waiting in my stash: Michael Miller’s Atomic fabric, with retro shapes that look like mid-century clocks (love this!).

I chose to make Butterick B5748 (that Roisin already made here), because I wanted to keep the shape simple with such a busy fabric. It does have an interesting feature, with a nice low scoop back:

The skirt is a full circle, it’s actually the first time I make one like this. I really like this type of skirt on me, I find it really flattering and there is just so much fabric!

I lined it in a really light and soft cotton-silk voile, and I wear it with two different petticoats: one that I made myself, and a tulle one from Modcloth that I can’t wear on it’s own because it’s too scratchy. It really completes the 50s look 🙂
