Is there such a thing as too much plaid flannel?

February 18, 2018

As far as I am concerned, there are only two seasons: from March to August, it’s gingham season, and from September to February it’s time for plaid flannel! By the way, have you ever noticed that buffalo plaid is basically gingham‘s evil twin? White buffalo plaid or black gingham, it might be the most controversial question since the color of “the dress”… But anyway let’s get back to my new shirtdress!

Space Velvet

January 22, 2018

Every winter when it starts getting cold, I become completely obsessed with velvet clothing. I collect inspiration pictures on a dedicated Pinterest board, and one of my favorites is this Urban Outfitters turtleneck top in silver velvet, which is a fun and casual take on an otherwise pretty dramatic fabric. During my latest order I was a few dollars short from getting free shipping, and, thinking back on this outfit I decided to throw in a yard and a half of silver crushed velvet, in the hope of recreating something like it. Upon consideration I figured a scoop neck would be easier to wear than a turtleneck, especially in such a cheap non-breathable fabric, and I decided for the Nettie bodysuit which I had gotten in a PDF bundle a while ago.

At the beach in winter

January 15, 2018

For New Year, I took a week off and went on vacation to the beach. In December it’s definitely cheaper than going skiing, but when it’s below freezing there’s no way to go for a swim. So since I had time to spare I took advantage of the occasion to take pictures of my new hat!

Sewing and knitting cravings for 2018

December 31, 2017

2017 has been a weird year for me regarding sewing and knitting. On the one hand, I have been super productive: I’ve made many test garments and prototypes for Deer&Doe (including three Luzerne trench coats!), gifts for my family (a second Archer shirt for my sister, a Burda robe for my mom, and even a tablecloth), and lots of baby clothes (the Deauville/Brighton pants and suspenders and the Flax Light sweater have been this year’s MVPs). On the other hand, I haven’t been very motivated to sew for myself. I finished way fewer projects than usual, and published only 13 blog posts this year. I’m not putting myself down though, I know I still have to get used to my new lifestyle which includes spending 4 months a year in France, away from my sewing room, but I miss sewing just for fun. I’d like to experiment a bit more, and take the time to explore techniques or project types I am not used to, without setting hard deadlines or goals. So here’s what I’m excited about for the year to come 🙂

Flamingos obsession

December 27, 2017

I mentioned in the previous post my love for Telio fabrics. Here’s my latest favorite: this wonderful navy rayon voile with flamingo silhouettes in white with coral accents. Deep colors, a soft and drapey hand, and my favorite americana symbol (I think it’s time for a “flamingos” tag on this blog!), what more could I ask for? 🙂
