Now that wedding season is over and things got a little more quiet over here, I can finally take the time to show you all the dresses I made. And there are quite a few of them! For wedding number 5, I traveled to the Outer Banks, off the coast of North Carolina. The wedding was on the beach so I wanted a sleeveless dress, flowy but still retro. I chose to make the Carmen dress, a free pattern offered by Ralph Pink.
And here is the last pattern of the Deer&Doe fall-winter collection! After the Arum dress and the Fumeterre skirt, the only one left is the Cardamome dress. Unlike Arum, which pulled me out of my comfort zone style-wise, Cardamome is closer to what I’m used to sew and wear, as it it fitted at the waist and also because it’s a shirtdress ! (c.f. my recent obsession) Cardamome is ranked as a pattern for advanced sewists (a 4 out of 5 on the new Deer&Doe scale) because it is full of details: shirring, pockets, bib, collar with collar stand, and sleeve…
After the Arum dress yesterday, it is now time to take a closer look at the Fumeterre skirt, the second pattern of Deer&Doe’s Fall-Winter 2015 collection. Fumeterre is a maxi skirt proposed in two variations: one with buttons down the front, and one with a fly front zipper and patch pockets. My favorite is the buttoned one, I find it extremely elegant, and it’s this version that I ended up testing.
The day of a Deer&Doe release always feels kind of like Christmas morning. Today we were spoiled, as Eléonore released a full collection of three different patterns: the beginner-friendly Arum dress, the Fumeterre maxi-skirt and the forties-inspired Cardamome dress. Once again I was able to test de patterns, so I’m going to show you one per day, starting today with the Arum dress.
Until recently, I had never seen plastic flamingos, except maybe in The Sims. In France, people are more into garden gnomes, but since I’ve moved here I have seen a lot of their pink plastic cousins and I have taken quite a liking to their kitschiness. So it was only a matter of time until I got myself some flamingo clothing…
